Terrorist attack

Returning to the scene

Trip to Barcelona

A driver deliberately drove his van into the crowds on Barcelona’s most popular street, the Las Ramblas.

The street, known as the heart of the city, is popular for tourists and locals because of its restaurants, bars and market stalls.

The white vehicle entered the street at about 5pm and rammed into pedestrians outside a restaurant.

The terrorist was driving down the busy street for another 500 metres until he finally stopped.

Victims were left in the street, covered with blood and screaming from pain. Others fled the scene in panic, some of them carrying young children.

Police later confirmed that 14 people were killed and 130 injured during the attack. Citizens of 24 countries were among those killed and injured in Barcelona.

The attacker fled in a stolen car but nine hours later, he and his accomplices were shot by the police after a second attack in Barcelona on the following day.
